I am fascinated by timelessness. I am always looking for things - songs, essays, movies, art, photography, TV, architecture, and ideas - that might have the chance to persist beyond the immediate cycle.
When I find enough of these things, I’ll compile them into an edition of Branches and send them out.
Branches started as a series of ten posts called Excellent Things. The first of which I wrote in 2016. You can see those posts here: Excellent Things I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X.
To give you a taste of my taste, here are some timeless things.
George Orwell’s Politics and the English Language
David Foster Wallace’s This is Water
Richard Hamming’s You and your research
Bon Iver’s ‘Creeks’ live.
Keith Jarret’s ‘The Koln Concert’
James Baldwin’s Letter From A Region In My Mind
Jorn Utzon’s Sydney Opera House
David Grann’s A Murder Foretold
